Who we are

Well Drilling Guide is a directory of water well drilling contractors across the United States and Canada, published at https://welldrillingguide.com. It is free for homeowners to search and use. We are a publisher, not a drilling company, and we do not carry out or arrange drilling work ourselves.

Information you give us

Quote requests. When you ask for quotes through a listing or one of our forms, we store the name, email address and phone number you enter, along with the details of the job you describe — property, type of work, timeframe and your message. We also record which page you sent it from and your IP address, which we use to stop automated abuse of the forms.

Our team processes each quote request and may forward it to listed drillers. On a listing form, this can include the listing you opened and, if you choose nearby matches, up to two other listed drillers. Article, sidebar and tool forms may match up to three listed drillers near the location you enter. If the selected listing cannot be emailed, or no nearby listed driller can be matched, our team may receive the request for follow-up. Submitting a request does not guarantee that a contractor will receive it or reply. We do not sell enquiries.

Contractors. If you claim or advertise a listing, we store the account and business details you provide. Basic listings and claim requests are free. Paid Preferred Provider plans are not open for general purchase.

Contact messages. The name, email address, subject and message you submit on the contact page go to our team. They are not routed to listed contractors through the quote system.

Newsletter sign-ups. If you sign up for email updates, your email address and optional name are submitted to Brevo for list management when we use that service. We may also store the sign-up on the site so our team can manage it.

Information collected automatically

Google Analytics records page views and general usage so we can see which pages are useful. Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used — including mouse movement, clicks and scrolling — and can replay anonymised sessions. It is a diagnostic tool for finding broken layouts and confusing pages. Clarity masks text input by default, but you should assume your general behaviour on a page may be recorded after you accept analytics.

Cloudflare serves and protects the site, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that form submissions come from a person rather than a bot. Both see your IP address as part of delivering the page. The site's typefaces and icons are hosted by Well Drilling Guide, so displaying them does not send a request to Google Fonts or Font Awesome.

Location search

When you search for drillers near a place, the words you type are sent from your browser to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, which turns them into map coordinates so we can list the contractors closest to you. That request goes directly from your device to OpenStreetMap and includes your IP address; we do not make it on your behalf and we do not keep a separate record of it.

The place you searched for also appears in the web address of the results page. If you accept analytics, our website analytics may record that page address alongside ordinary page views.

Location data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is available under the Open Database Licence.

Cookies and analytics choices

The site uses necessary cookies for security, to remember your privacy choice and to keep you logged in if you have an account. Google Analytics begins with analytics storage denied. Microsoft Clarity is not loaded at all unless you choose “Accept analytics.” If you accept, these services may set analytics cookies that recognise later page visits. Advertising storage remains disabled.

You can accept or decline analytics without affecting the site's main features. You can change your decision at any time with the “Privacy choices” button shown on the site. If you change from accepted to declined, the site tells the analytics services to stop cookie-based tracking and clears the Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies it can access.

Who we share information with

The listed contractor or contractors matched for a quote request, and our team while it processes or reviews the request, as described above. Our hosting, analytics, security and email or newsletter providers, as described above, in the course of running the site. We do not sell personal information.

How long we keep it

Quote requests are kept in the site's database so we can answer questions about an enquiry and investigate abuse. Account and billing records are kept while the account is active and afterwards where we are required to keep them. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's own policy. If you want your details removed, contact us and say so — see below.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you have an account you can also request an export. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under local law. Use the site's “Privacy choices” button to change analytics consent, or write to us using the contact page for other requests.

Comments

If you leave a comment on an article we store the comment, the name and email you give, and your IP address, so we can moderate spam. Comments are rarely used on this site.
